- The collection of the primary school of Erdevik comprises work reports, school grade books, roll calls, registers, minutes and other records. The exam reports on the progress of students 1885-1895 (I-IV grades) include Jewish students, as a significant number of Jewish families lived in Erdevik; the names of Bela, Gizela and Flora Hekiš appear in unit 1. The exam reports for 1896-1906 record the names of Jozef (Josip) Hekiš, Marija Rosenberg, Jelka and Leopold Sulzbah, David Francoz, Kon Jakob, Leopold Rosenberg and others (Inv. unit 2). Unit 35 contains a document dated 1908 which lists the necessary textbooks and teaching aids for the general German elementary school in Erdevik. Among the books for religious education were those written by Frenschen. In the class attendance and grade books for the school year 1933/1934 the name of Katica Sulcbah (Inv. unit 22) was recorded. Other documents such as reports, registers, diaries also provide data on Jewish students. In these reports and diaries, in addition to the obligatory data on the student (date of birth, parent's name and occupation, etc.), school attendance and success, details of the student’s religion were added.
- Archival history:
- The collection was transferred to the Archives by the Municipality of Šid. It was in a state of disorder, only partially preserved, and mixed with documents of other creators
- Administrative/biographical history:
- There are no details on the establishment of the school. This village in Srem had no separate Serbian and Croatian schools, as it was the case with most of the villages, but a primary public school with Croatian as the language of instruction. It was officially called Croatian, although it could be the Serbian language, in line with the School law adopted on 1 November 1888, which forbade the use of the terms "Serbian school", "Serbian language" and the Cyrillic alphabet. The county reports for 1896 recorded that the Serbian girls’ elementary school and the Serbian boys' school were merged into one Mixed elementary school with Croatian as the language of instruction. In 1904 it was a two-grade school, as was the school using Slovak for instruction, while the German school was four-grade. The Commission for Education and Religion for Slavonia and Srijem in Zagreb, by its act No. 31005 of 7 March 1921, merged all the schools in the village, Serbian, German and Slovak, into one school and founded the Erdevik Eight-Grade High School, but the school continued to have classes in German and Hungarian. The school was attended Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and Jewish students. The German-language classes were abolished in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, while Slovak and Hungarian remained until the end, although in the minority compared with Serbian.
