The vacations took place in Igman near Sarajevo (immediately after the end of WWII), Rovinj, Zaton Mali near Dubrovnik and Hvar, and in Pirovac, near Šibenik, where the Association owned a resort. The collection comprises lists of summer resort participants, usually organised in 4 groups, and a large number of photographs.
- Administrative/biographical history:
-
The Commission for Holidays of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia was authorised to organise summer holidays, their selection, functioning, administration and supervision, as well as socio-cultural life. In the first post-war years, the summer vacations for children and youth had a predominantly social and health function, and were organised for the children and the younger members of the communities who were in need of holidays in the mountains or seaside including food due to their malnutrition. The first such summer resorts were organised in Crikvenica, Rovinj, Pazarić, Lovran, Fruška Gora and they continued until the break-up of Yugoslavia.
The Commission had managers, deputies and members who met when required (initially every fortnight) and made decisions by a simple majority of votes. The Commission also organised summer vacations for officials, activists and professional associates of the Jewish communities. The main activity of the summer vacation was the cultural program, with a series of lectures organised for all ages. The activity of young people in the organisation increased over time, with young people gradually becoming involved as educators, organisers, lecturers and managers. By the end of the Commission’s existence most of the programs had been created by the young people themselves. There were also lectures and discussions organised with the Jewish public and cultural workers and guests from abroad. The Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia hosted Jewish youth from a number of other countries.
