- Archival history:
- After the creator of the records ceased to operate, the archives remained housed in the County building in Sombor. According to the decision (I no. 17306/1937) of the Ban of the Danube Administration (Banovina) the records of Bács-Bodrog County were transferred to the State Archives in Novi Sad. Archival fonds number 2 Bács-Bodrog County (1688-1849) is one of the most valuable in the Archives of Vojvodina and it is categorised as a fonds of exceptional importance.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- After the liberation of the Turkish rule the medieval counties Bacs and Bodrog were reestablished by the charters issued by Emperor Leopold I in December 1699. Bacs county included the northern part and Bodrog the southern part of the Bačka region. The dispute over mutual territories and the separation with a Potiska military boundary led to the loss of independence and the small Bodrog county was merged into Bacs county. The State Council in Požun legally verified Bács-Bodrog county in 1803, even though they had united in 1730. In the 18th and the first half of the 19th century Bács-Bodrog county included the whole territory of Bacs, except for Šajkaška, which was under military jurisdiction. It was divided in districts: Upper, Middle, Lower, Potiski and later Telečki county which was incorporated in 1811. The county administration operated until the Revolution of 1848/49. After the fall of Bach’s absolutism in 1861 Bács-Bodrog county continued to exist in the new administrative structure and political and social circumstances until its final abolition after World War I.
