The records in this collection were created by Association of Merchants of Manufactured, Textile and Fashion Goods of the City of Belgrade in the period between 1922 and 1948. They comprise minutes of the Managing Board meetings, registries, financial books, registers of merchants and their stores. The documents cover all aspects of economic life in the Serbian capital and the participation of Jewish as well as non-Jewish merchants in the textile and fashion industry.
The collection includes: list of Association members; list of registered companies; names of the Association’s management and members of Managing and Supervising Boards; lists of merchants who joined different sections of Association; list of merchants who sell second hand goods; annual elections, with lists of candidates; reports from annual meetings of the Associations; lists of members who were selected to represent the Association on various merchants’ conferences in the region and reports from the conferences; membership fees, payment and debts; personal records of Association members containing personal documentation - birth and marriage certificates, school certificates and diplomas, military service, citizenship certificates etc.; annual business reports of various companies; applications of merchants to register their companies; certificate of authorising a manager in companies; identification sheets of companies registered in the Association; requests of merchants to receive certificates of passed journeyman exam and master qualifications; requests for company’s registration certificate; certificates of annual profit of a company; correspondence with the Association about possible business partners; demands for information on certain merchants for possible cooperation; documentation about charitable actions, invitations to parties and celebrations organised by the Association; documents about contributions to the Association; records on bankrupt companies with supporting documentation on creditors and settlements; notes about changes in activities, address, ownership or authorised representative; agreements of apprenticeship, with personal information on the apprentice, his parents, company and its owner, as well as information about obligations of both sides in the agreement; records on actions and procedures against individuals who worked without the Association’s work permit; actions against illegal advertising and lower price of merchandise; court decisions to close businesses; merchants’ requests for business licenses with supporting documentation and often a photo; Association reports on controls conducted in various parts of the city; payments of customs and taxes; announcements of shops ceasing operations; requests of merchants to leave the membership of the Association; documents of partnerships and dissolutions of partnerships; lists of foreign merchants with businesses in Belgrade, with Jewish merchants among others.
The following names of the Jewish traders and merchant were recorded in the Association lists: Avram Koen, Aron Levi, Avram Levi, Arueti Brothers, Gabaj Brothers, Almuli and Demajo, Brothers Levi, Brothers Pijade, Brothers Najman, Bencion and Alfandari, Isak A. Koen, Isak J. Koen, Josif Almuli, Jakov Bararon, Jakov Levi, Jakov Rubenović, Koen, Ruben and Company Factory Šumadija, Marko Konforti, Marko Altaras, Majer Altaras, Nisim Aron, Nisim Anaf, Pinkas and Company, Rafailo Jakovljević, Uzijel Levi and others.

- The records of the Association of Merchants of Manufactured, Textile and Fashion Goods for the City of Belgrade were transferred by the Chambers of Commerce in Belgrade in 1948.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Association of Merchants of Manufactured, Textile and Fashion Goods of the City of Belgrade was established in 1924 under the name Manufacturing Merchant’s Association of Belgrade. The goals of the Association were to improve manufacturing commerce in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, as well as to establish organisations useful to merchants, to protect members’ interests, to compile a register of registered companies and to provide professional interpretations if requested by Chambers of Commerce. The Association organised meetings with the members and maintained relations with other merchant’s associations. In 1928 two departments were established within Association: the Wholesale Department and Creditors Department. The Association of Merchants of Manufactured, Textile and Fashion Goods of the City of Belgrade had regular members, founders, benefactors, great benefactors, honorary members and correspondence members. The Chamber of Commerce supervised the work of the Association according to the article 98 of the Law on Stores. The Association was dissolved in 1948.
