The records in this collection provide information on Belgrade merchants, including Jews. They include: lists of merchants and the stores they owned in Belgrade; applications for permission to open stores and applications for business licenses. These applications often contained accompanying documents such as birth certificates, school certificates, military service certificates, etc. General documents, minutes and other accompanying material detail the functioning of the Association through the management and supervising boards.
The collection includes a number of applications filed by Jewish merchants in 1941 for certificates of ownership of their stores, as well as announcements of the appointment of the German commissars’ administration of Jewish companies and stores. There are also lists of Jewish stores registered in the Association and lists of merchants who applied for work permits in April 1941, immediately after the German occupation and the introduction of antisemitic policies.
