- The archive contains correspondence, both original and copies, reports, school records, monographs, and periodicals on various subjects.
- Archival history:
- The collection, kept in the office of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, where Segre had worked until 1979, was transferred to former Bibliographic Center in 1993. The collection was reorganised and inventoried between 2007 and 2008.

Augusto Segre, a prominent figure in Italian Jewry, dedicated most of his life to spreading Jewish concepts and culture in Italy and around the world.
Born in Casale Monferrato in 1915 to Benedetta and Jechezqél Segre, the rabbi of the local Jewish community, he completed his rabbinical studies and earned a law degree in Rome in 1951.
During the Nazi-Fascist persecutions, he actively collaborated with the Delegation for the Assistance of Jewish Emigrants – better known as Delasem – and took part in the Resistance in the Langhe area of Piedmont.
In the summer of 1937, he served as secretary of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (henceforth UCEI), but the appointment was never finalised due to internal disagreements with the leadership.
In the early postwar period, he decided to move permanently to Rome, accepting the position of assistant for the Jewish section at the Italian Jewish Orphanage “Giuseppe e Violante Pitigliani”.
An active leader of the Zionist movement, he was Secretary General of the Italian Zionist Federation from 1947 until 1959.
From 1959 to 1978, he was director of the Department of Education and Culture of the UCEI (henceforth DEC). A letter dated 31 March 1959, from UCEI President Sergio Piperno to Dante Lattes reveals Segre’s appointment, following pressure from the American Joint Distribution Committee and the Claims Conference, due to the need to establish an executive body responsible for educational and cultural activities in various Jewish communities, also following Lattes’s return to Venice.
He taught Jewish history and thought at the Italian Rabbinical College and Post-Biblical Judaism at the Faculty of Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University.
In April 1975, after the death of Yoseph Colombo, he took over the direction of La Rassegna Mensile di Israel – the only journal that, in addition to covering general topics of Jewish culture, also dealt (and still deals) with the historical, philosophical, and social aspects of Italian Jewry through the publication of articles and reviews of books and journals. He held this role until December 1978.
In April 1979, he made aliyah to Israel, settling in Jerusalem with his wife. He died in Rome in November 1986 at the age of 71.
