- Archival history:
- After World War II materials from the interwar period, along with earlier materials, were part of the Central State Archive of the Latvian SSR. In 1962 it was decided to reorganise the archive and it was renamed the Central State Historical Archives of the Latvian SSR. The materials predating the period of Soviet rule were deposited in this archive, predecessor of the current State Historical Archive.

- Documents concerning Latvian citizens who lived or worked abroad, foreign citizens who came to Latvia, trade and economic relations, prisoners of war and refugees from the Soviet Union, among whom there were many Jewish families, who were forced to leave for Russia during the First World War and returned to Latvia at the beginning of the 1920s are also kept in two other fonds of the Latvian State Historical Archives: No. 2575 - Latvian Diplomatic and Consular Missions Abroad and No. 2574 - Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
