- Archival history:
- The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences was established in 1912 by the famous lawyer, public figure and bibliophile Tadeusz Stanisław Wróblewski. This fonds was received in 1956 from Vilnius restoration workshops. Materials were added to it in 1965, 1966, 1973 and 1974.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Vilnius capitol was established in 1388, at the same time as the Vilnius diocese (ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop). The first capitol was made up of two prelates (bishops or other high ecclesiastical dignitaries) and ten canons (subject to ecclesiastical rule, a cleric living close to a cathedral and conducting his life according to the orders or rules of the church). Later, their numbers grew. The right to appoint canons belonged to the grand duke. The capitol was governed by its own statute and participated actively in the life of the diocese. The bishop asked for the advice and opinion of the capitol in all important matters. There was a school, and later a priest seminary, managed by the capitol.
