The Vulfson Family collection includes photographs, films and audio recordings reflecting social and political life in Latvia, as well as memorable events in the history of the Latvian Jewish community in the 1990s and early 2000s. 500 photographs from the Vulfson family collection are presented on the archive website www.redzidzirdilatviju.lv. These include photographs of Mavrik Vulfson, Emma Bramnik-Vulfson and other Jewish public figures - film critic Abram Kletskin, executive director of the Jewish community Gita Umanovskaya, Israeli conductor Yoav Talmi, Israeli ambassador to Latvia Abram Benjamin, Israeli ambassador to Latvia Tova Herzl, Israeli diplomat Joel Lion, Rabbi Nathan Barkan, historian Margeris Westermanis, the doctor and writer Eva Vater, film director Herz Frank and others.
The collection also contains photographs taken at various events: a solemn event dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Israel, the international conference "Jews in a Changing World", meetings with members of the Jewish Club of Scientists, the opening of the Goethe Institute in Riga, events celebrated by the Jewish community in the Riga House of Congress, Shabbat festivities in Riga, Jewish festivals celebrated in a Jewish kindergarten, the celebration of Tu BiShvat in the Riga Jewish community, etc. There are 14 photographs taken on 23 October 1992 at an event in Rumbula commemorating the memory of Nazi victims (in 1941 more than 25,000 people were shot in the Rumbula Forest).
Among the collection of films, there are videos about to the restoration of Latvia's independence, the celebration of Mavrik Vulfson's 85th birthday, Vulfson receiving awards for achievements in journalism, interviews and TV shows with Vulfson, Vulfson's funeral in 2004, a film in memory of Vulfson, etc.
The audio part of the collection includes recordings of radio broadcasts, interviews, musical concerts, etc.; such as a radio broadcast about the Holocaust, a radio broadcast about the events of January 1991 (the struggle for the separation of Latvia from the USSR, in a broadcast called "Time of Barricades"), Emma Bramnik-Wolfson’s discussion of Israel, presentation of the book by Mavrik Vulfson “Baltic Fates : With a View on WW2 : 100 Days That Destroyed the Peace”.

The Latvian State Archive of Audiovisual Documents is one of the largest preservers of the cultural and historical heritage of Latvia. It contains unique and comprehensive documents revealing the life of Latvia in audiovisual material (film and video), photographs and audio records. The mission of the archive is to collect, preserve and disseminate visual evidence regarding Latvia to all interested patrons. The Archive has created a new multimedia website: See, Hear Latvia! (Redzi, dzirdi Latviju!) (www.redzidzirdilatviju.lv) where it is possible to search and obtain information from the Archives’ collection about audiovisual material, photos and audio records from the 1850s to the present.
This collection of photos, films and audio recordings was transferred to the Latvian State Archive of Audiovisual Documents in 2004-2010 by Emma Bramnik-Vulfson.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Mavrik Vulfson (1918-2004) was a famous politician, fighter for the independence of Latvia, and a professor at the Latvian Academy of Arts. Mavrik Vulfson was born in Moscow to a Jewish family who returned to Latvia in 1921. During WWII, Vulfson served in the 43rd Guards in the Latvian Rifle Division. In 1989 he was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, and in 1990 he was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the Latvian SSR as a member of the People's Front of Latvia Party. After the restoration of Latvia's independence, Vulfson was a member of the Democratic Labour Party and the People's Accord Party. His wife Emma Bramnik-Vulfson is a journalist, writer and public figure.
