The collection of audio recordings is partially presented on the Latvian State Archive of Audiovisual Documents website http://www.redzidzirdilatviju.lv/en/search. The Audio Documents Section, consisting of audio and music documentation from the late 19th century until the present, was integrated into the website in June 2018. Audio records and files from the late 1980s and early 1990s during the period of the Latvian National Awakening and the subsequent restoration of the Republic of Latvia are of particular historical significance and value. These include interviews and speeches of state politicians, culture representatives and well-known persons, and radio programs of Latvian exiles.
The collection also features audio recordings related to Jewish culture, history, political and social life in Latvia including audio recordings of speeches and scientific reports at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th international conferences "Jews in a Changing World" (1997-2001): "Jews and Intellectual Life in the Baltics and Europe", "Emigration or Return. On the intangible aspects of the repatriation of the Jews of Eastern Europe ", "Problems of Jewish national education. History and modernity ", "Jews and Russian philosophy", "Jews in the musical life of Latvia", "Outstanding Jewish doctors who lived and worked in Latvia ", "The extermination of Jews in the Latvian provincial cities: Krustpils", "The modern Jewish world and September 11th", introductions about outstanding Jews, specialists in various fields, etc.
There are also audio materials from the office of the President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga (President of Latvia 1999-2007), including speeches, interviews, discussions, press conferences and answers to questions related to Jewish issues. For example, a speech by the President of Latvia to the Jewish community before a Jewish festival, a speech by Vaira Vike-Freiberga at an event commemorating the memory of Jewish victims of Nazism, a speech by the President of Latvia at the opening of the conference "Jews in a Changing World", a speech by the President at the inauguration of the Jewish community’s library and on the translation of “Night” by Elie Wiesel.
In addition, the archive contains recordings of Jewish songs, recordings of programs on Jewish themes from radio in Latvia and other countries, including: an interview about the life of Latvian Jews in Israel from Radio Melbourne; radio broadcasts of the Latvian Jewish community "Ze Anahnu"; radio broadcasts "Free Europe" - "The Similarity of Jews and Latvians in the Context of History and Modernity" and a recording of Frank Gordon's radio program in Tel Aviv about Jewish history, including a speech at the Jewish Congress on Latvia's participation in the Holocaust; radio broadcast of Canada about Latvia, including a story about the Jews of Latvia and about the First International Jewish Congress in Riga.
The audio collection also contains valuable recordings of Jewish performers, such as musical compositions (recorded on vinyl records from 1958-1969) featuring the legendary pianist Herman Brauns and pianist Israel Blanclayder.
