- Archival history:
-
The LCVA was established in 1921, following a statute of the Lithuanian Board of Education. In 1940, when the Soviets occupied Lithuania, the NKVD took over the archive. During the Nazi occupation of 1941-1944, the archive continued its activities and was renamed the Vilnius National Archive. Following the second Soviet occupation of 1944, the NKVD regained control of the archives. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, the archive was renamed the Lithuanian Central State Archive.
This collection was taken over in 1967 from the Central National Soviet Army Archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Vilnius Governorate Revolutionary Military Committee was the highest Soviet authority in the territory of the governorate. The Committee organised horses, food and carriages for the Red Army, provided communication lines and guarded roads, fought bandits, organised activities related to counter-revolution, speculation, police, health care, education and culture, social assistance and more. In 1920, the Committee was evacuated to Minsk and closed down a month later.
