This collection contains documents of the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs from 1918 to 1942. Documents of various departments and its activities can be found in this collection, such as personnel files, papers related to passport permits, accounting documents, documents of the finance department and more.
In terms of Jewish content, one series in particular is relevant: “Correspondence pertaining Jewish communities and the Jewish press” (inventory 10, file 286). It contains memoranda of the Department for Associations and Press regarding Jewish communities that describe their history and activities; requests of numerous Jewish rabbis, organisations and persons to permit the continued existence of official Jewish communities; memoranda of the Jewish Community Council about its activities; records of tax payments; and the Jewish periodical "Dos Vort". In addition, inventory 5, file 208, contains protocols of the general convention of “Maccabi”.

- The Ministry of Internal Affairs was established in 1918 with the establishment of the independent Lithuanian Republic. It finished its activities in 1940 under the Soviet occupation of Lithuania.
