- This collection contains documents produced by ten Jewish organisations that operated in Vilnius or in Warsaw in the interwar period: the Association for Jewish Authors and Journalists in Vilnius; the Jewish PEN club in Vilnius; the Jewish Central Education Committee in Vilnius; the Vilnius region Jewish Teachers’ Professional Union; the General Jewish Teachers’ Professional Union in Vilnius; the Vilnius Branch of Polish Jews’ Regional History Association; the Association for the Spread of Craft and Agriculture among Jews “ORT”; the Polish Craftsmen’s Association; Working Friends of Palestine Association in Warsaw; and the Evening Courses for Adults Association in Warsaw. Some general documents pertaining to these organisations that are in this collection are as follows: various correspondences with branches in other cities and countries as well as correspondences with government bodies, educational bodies, schools and other organisations, minutes of meetings, lists of members, articles and messages about activities, requests for membership of the various associations, association statutes, financial documents and other similar official documents.

- This collection was organised in 2003.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Interwar Lithuania had an autonomous Jewish community until 1926, and even after the dissolving of official autonomy Jews thrived culturally, economically, educationally and socially. This collection contains documents of associations, unions and societies pertaining to Jewish education, craftsmanship, agriculture, journalism and writing. They operated from the establishment of the independent Lithuanian Republic in 1919 until the Soviet occupation in 1940.
