This collection contains documents pertaining to four Jewish theatre associations: Association for the Support of Jewish Theatre in Vilnius, Polish Jews' Actor Association, Jewish Music Theatre and Literature Association "Carmel" in Riga and Latvian Jewish Artist Association.
Documents found in this collection pertaining to the Association for the Support of Jewish Theatre in Vilnius are as follows: statutes, decisions, minutes of meetings, memorandums, work plans, reports of activities and finances, messages, various correspondence on financial supports for theatre, tax exemption, tours, theatre and studio establishment and others, member registration forms, lists of members, permits to organise meetings, plays, concerts, documents related to Vilnius Jewish theatres: minutes of employee meetings, theatres programmes, lists of actors, requests for financial support.
Documents of the Polish Jews’ Actor Association in this collection are as follows: minutes of meetings, messages, announcements, correspondence on conventions, tours, financial supports to theatres and artists, lists of members, declarations, forms, Jewish theatre documents of various Polish towns: minutes of actors’ meetings, financial reports, lists of actors.
The majority of this collection relates to the aforementioned associations. Minutes of meetings of the Jewish Music Theatre and Literature Association "Carmel" in Riga are also present in this collection, as well as correspondence about admission of artists to the Latvian Jewish Artist Association.
- Archival history:
- The LCVA organised this collection in 1951. It was supplemented in 1965, 1966 and 1978 before the fonds was reorganised in 2000.

The Association for the Support of Jewish Stage (Theatre) in Vilnius was established and registered officially in Vilnius in 1927. Its goals were to foster and develop Jewish theatre, to take care of the cultural education of Jews and to encourage interest in Jewish theatre. The association provided material support for Vilnius Jewish theatres, helped organise plays, concerts, prepared lectures, exhibitions, evenings of dance, literature, anniversaries of famous actors, published theatre productions, publications dedicated to stage art, announced competitions for best plays, granted prizes to winners, and took care of actors’ professional training. The association was closed in 1940.
The Polish Jews' Actor Association was established in 1922; its headquarters were in Warsaw. This association defended its members’ professional interests, helped actors set up contracts, assisted in solving conflicts, took care of its members’ health care, supported unemployed actors, organised members’ conventions and conferences. It was active until the year 1939.
