- The collection contains documents of the Tushia Jewish Gymnasium. It was the primary school of the Jewish society Heder Msukon in Riga since 1902, and was the first in the territory of the Russian Empire to advance national-religious principles and have Hebrew-language instruction for children. Its purpose was to teach Hebrew, Biblical studies, Jewish history, religious and general education subjects. Courses were taught in Hebrew. Almost all teachers were students of the Heder Msukon school. Since 1923, the primary school was called Tuschia. The collection includes orders, instructions, and circulars about the schoolwork; minutes of meetings of the pedagogical council; minutes of parental meetings; surveys on the composition of the school and gymnasium and their activities; CVs for teaching work; teaching certificates; lists of pupils; graduation degrees; petitions for admission to the gymnasium; grade books, exam records, and correspondence. In the 1938-1939 curriculum of the Tushia gymnasium Latvian, Hebrew and Bible, and mathematics were the courses stressed most. Each of these subjects were taught for four hours a week.
