- Scope and content:
- The collection contains documents of the society “Friends of Torah”. It includes the charter, minutes of meetings of the board and the auditing commission, lists of board members and commission members, and cash books. As written in its charter, the goal of the society was religious education and upbringing. As evident from the minutes of meetings, members of “Friends of Torah” discussed organising a religious seminar "Yeshiva Bet Yosef" in Daugavpils and a course of lectures "Bet Yosef" in Rezekne and later in Riga. The company received money from Jewish charitable organisations to hold these events in Rezekne and Daugavpils. It received permission to hold the seminar in Daugavpils from the Ministry of Education on 16 April 1940. The last protocol of a meeting is dated 14 May1940. There are no records that the seminar actually took place. Apparently, the occupation of Latvia by Soviet troops in June 1940 stopped all their plans.
