- This collection consists of the papers of Jardenia, the Jewish women student and philisters community, which existed in Riga from 1927 until the Soviet takeover of Latvia in 1940. The collection includes the community’s statute and various papers of the community's administrative bodies, such as protocols of the governing board and general meetings, minutes of the revision committee meetings, lists of board members, lists of revision committee and community members, activity reports for the first year of existence 1927/1928 (partial). An important part of the collection is correspondence between Jardenia and various other Jewish organisations. The correspondence includes inter alia: a discussion of organisational matters with foreign and Latvian Jewish student organisations; issues of fundraising (with charitable society Bikur-Holim); issues of the establishment of a united Jewish National block for the elections to the students’ board in the Latvian University; and correspondence of the Mutual Aid Fund of the Jewish Students in the Latvian University. For example, one of the files in the collection is the protocol of the joint meeting on 1 December 1929 of Jardenia and the Union of Jewish women students “Hazfiro” from Tartu on the issue of coordinating and expanding their joint activities (Inventory 1, file 2). During the meeting, the delegates of Hazfiro expressed concern that Jardenia could eventually turn into a Zionist organisation, while one of the leaders of Jardenia emphasised its national character and assured them that in Riga "the word nationalist is a demonstration against Zionism". Another issue which exposed a dispute between the organisations was the question of a common language. Hazfiro favored Yiddish, while Jardenia favored Russian or Hebrew. Therefore, at the meeting, various projects were proposed to choose the language of the organisations. The collection contains also greetings from several Zionist Jewish student organisations for the joining of Jardenia to the Zionist movement in 1932 and an agreement between Jardenia and the female pupils’ organisation Galilia (1931/1932) (Inventory 1, file 16). According to the agreement, Jardenia was a patronage organisation to Galilia, and promised to support Galilia in its Zionist work. Other files contain applications for admission and exclusion (including brief СVs of the candidates), congratulatory telegrams, a report on the literary activity of Sholem-Aleichem (Inventory 1, file 28), notifications to the Jardenia’s members on upcoming meetings, Riga prefecture permissions for meetings, and invitations to events organised by various Jewish organisations. The collection includes also lists of boards of other Latvian Jewish Students’ organisations such as Hasmoneah, Hechaver, Vetulia and Limuvia.

- The Jewish women’s organisation Jardenia was established in 1927 at the University of Latvia in Riga. The organisation was a Jewish-national non-partisan student community and mostly carried out educational activities. Practically from the very beginning, Jardenia was sympathetic to the Zionist movement. Their activities included study of Jewish history, history of Zionism and history of the women's movement. Jardenia actively cooperated with other Jewish student organisations in Latvia and other countries. In March 1932, Zionism was officially included in Jardenia’s ideological platform. In 1940, after the Soviet takeover of Latvia, the organisation was disbanded together with other student organisations in the country.
