- The collection contains papers relating to the activities of the Labour Zionist student society "Hashahar". Society members were engaged mainly in study of Hebrew, study of Zionism and labour preparation for emigration to Eretz Israel. The materials in the collection reflect the society's ideological and intellectual orientation and make it possible to study the society's practical activities. The collection includes: statute of the society, minutes of board and of general meetings, records of lectures, cashbooks and records related to the closure of the society in 1935.

- The former reference number of the "Hashahar" society collection in the Central State Archive of the Latvian SSR was f. 811.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The society was established in Riga in 1925 to provide students with a Zionist-socialist ideological orientation. After Karlis Ulmanis's coup d'état in 1934, the society was banned. It went underground and then practically resumed its activities within the framework of the new “Olim” Latvian Jewish society for the Promotion of the Colonisation of Palestine.
