The collection comprises various papers of the Latvian Joint Zionist Socialist Party. It includes the party's charter; drafts of the minutes of general meetings and protocols of central committee meetings; circulars; lists of the party’s founders; proclamations of the central committee; activity reports; alphabetic lists of members and their personal questionnaires; membership fees payments registry; lists of the members in the local branches and protocols of the branches; cashbooks; newspaper extracts and more.
A very important part of the collection is correspondence of the party in Riga with various foreign and Latvian Jewish organisations, and with the party’s local branches. The correspondence includes inter alia: issues of agitation, participation in conferences and coordination of political activities which were discussed with Zionists-Socialists abroad and with the Socialist International organisation in 1933-1934 (inventory 2, file 2); issues of fund raising discussed with the Keren-Kayemet and Keren-Hayesod organisations in 1934 (inventory 1, file 15); organisational matters discussed with different left-wing Zionist organisations in Latvia in 1931-1934 (inventory 1, file 17), with the Bund party and with Latvian Socialist-Democratic Party in 1933 (inventory 3, file 20); emigration to Eretz Israel and internal organisational issues of the local branches of the Latvian Joint Zionist Socialist Party; expansion of the party’s activities in different places; matters of preparations of the local branches for the elections to the municipal councils in 1931-1932 in the cities of Bauska, Krustpils, Tukums, Vilani, Gostini, Livani, Preili, Rezekne and Kraslava. For example, the correspondence on the preparations to the elections in Kraslava includes a discussion of association with other Jewish parties in the city (inventory 1, file 26). The correspondence of 1931 with the Ludza branch includes a list of the members of the Ludza municipal council which were elected on behalf of the Jewish united block. The collection contains messages of the local organisations in Latgale to the central board of the party on the preparations for the Saeim elections in 1931 (inventory 3, file 31). The collection also includes correspondence of the Latvian authorities in 1934-1936 on the liquidation of the party, the closure of local branches, and the search for the party’s leaders (inventory 2, file 5).
Records of some other Zionist organisations also included in the collection: extracts from the minutes of general meetings and the special conference of the Zeirei-Zion Party from 1931-1934; bulletins of the Worldwide Zionists-Socialists Party Union in Warsaw from 1932-1933; lists of Hahaluts members at agricultural farms in 1931-1934. In addition, the collection contains protests of the Latvian Joint Zionist Socialist Party against the actions of the Latvian Revisionist Zionists and against the support that rabbi Haim Morduch Khodakov, the Riga Municipal Councillor, provided to a member of the fascist Latvian organisation “Ugunskrusts” in 1932 (inventory 3, file 7). Thus, the materials in the collection facilitate study of the ideology of the party, identify the organisational problems that confronted it, as well as clarify with which political and public forces the party cooperated and struggled against in everyday work. The records in the collection also reflect the party's cultural and intellectual environment. These documents reveal that the party organised different presentations and cultural evenings. For example, in 1932, questions were raised in a meeting about the situation in the Zionist movement, of international socialism and on the economy in Latvia. Moreover, when David Ben-Gurion arrived in Latvia in 1933, he was greeted by party activists and gave presentations on Zionism and Eretz Israel in Riga, Jelgava, Daugavpils and Liepaja (inventory 3, file 4).

- The materials of the Latvian Joint Zionist Socialist Party constituted fonds number 341c in the Central State Archives of the Interior Ministry of the Latvian SSR. On an unknown date these materials were transferred to the Central State Historical Archives of the Latvian SSR, predecessor of the current Latvian State Historical Archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- At the beginning of 1931, three conferences of the members of the left-Zionist Latvian parties Zeirei-Zion and Zionist Socialists were held. As a result, it was decided to unite them in the framework of the Latvian Joint Zionist Socialist Party. The party stressed the importance of the productivisation of the Jewish masses and was based on a synthesis of Zionism and socialism. Settlement of the Jewish workers in Eretz Israel was one of the main tasks of the party. The party had branches in many cities of Latvia. In addition to Riga, an important centre of the party’s activities was in Daugavpils. After the 1934 Ulmanis coup d'état some party members were arrested and the party ceased its activity in Latvia.
