- The collection includes materials on the church administration in the area of Tbilisi, such as appointment of priests and records on their employment, land ownership and construction of new churches, regulations and data on weddings and baptisms etc. The Jewish-related documents of the collection include 1831 regulations concerning the baptism of Jews; Jewish names can be found in lists and reports concerning the baptisms performed in the churches of Tbilisi.

- In the 1920s the materials of the Russian administration in Tbilisi were transferred to the newly established Main Historical Archive of Georgia. In 1939 this archive became part of the Central State Historical Archive of Georgia, the predecessor of the current Central Historical Archive.

- In Imperial Russia, Deans of Clergy (blagochinnye) were members of the church administration, responsible for several churches or monasteries. The position was created during the reforms of Peter the Great in the early 18th century and existed until the end of the Imperial period.
