- The First Commercial School of Tbilisi functioned from the late 1890s to the end of the 1910s. Its archival collection includes administrative reports, lists of scholarship recipients, grades and matriculation records, educational plans, minutes of the school's committee of trustees and papers related to the granting of teaching licenses. Data related to the history of the Jews includes records on the Commercial School's Jewish students and workers in lists, reports and other documents.

- The materials of the collection were transferred to the Main Historical Archive of Georgia, the predecessor of the contemporary Central Historical Archive, in 1925.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- In late Imperial Russia, commercial schools (коммерческие училища) were a common type of a professionally-oriented secondary school. Legislation changes in late 19th century allowed the establishment of private or communal commercial schools that were supervised by the Ministry of Finance (and later by the Ministry of Trade and Industry), which allowed a relative curricular freedom in comparison to the secondary schools supervised by the Ministry of Popular Enlightenment. Furthermore, in certain cases commercial schools were able to ignore the restrictions on the admission of Jewish students that were enforced by the Ministry of Popular Enlightenment from 1887.
