- Scope and content:
- The collection of the Construction Department contains materials - correspondence, maps, schemes and so forth - on the construction of private houses, public buildings and structures, bridges, railroads and other infrastructure. Papers on the establishment of factories, communication systems and power plants can be also found in the collection. The Jewish-related materials of the collection include several files containing schemes and administrative documents on houses and businesses owned by Jewish residents of Tbilisi and the vicinity.
- Archival history:
- In the 1920s the materials of the Russian administration in Tbilisi were transferred to the newly established Main Historical Archive of Georgia. In 1939 this archive became part of the Central State Historical Archive of Georgia, the predecessor of the current Central Historical Archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Provincial Board of Tbilisi originates in the Executive Expedition of the Chief Georgian Government that was established in 1802. From 1840 it functioned as a Provincial Board of Georgia-Imeretia, after the creation of the Governorate of Tbilisi in the second half of the 1840s it assumed its name as the Provincial Board of Tbilisi. The Board's collection includes materials from all the periods of its activity, from the beginning of the 19th century until after the revolutions of 1917.
