The collection of the City Police of Akhaltsikhe includes a variety of materials on judicial, administrative and economic issues.
The ca. 15 Jewish-related files of the collection mostly include correspondence and other papers relating to land-owning issues – requests to present property ownership documents, decisions on appeals concerning land ownership disputes, correspondence on land sales involving Jews. A file from 1839 mentions the local governments' request to figure out, how many government-owned houses are found in the old town and in the Jewish quarter of Akhaltsikhe.
- Archival history:
- In the 1920s the materials of the Russian administration in Tbilisi were transferred to the newly established Main Historical Archive of Georgia. In 1939 this archive became part of the Central State Historical Archive of Georgia, the predecessor of the current Central Historical Archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The city of Akhaltsikhe was taken over by the Russian troops in the late 1820s. From 1840 it became the centre of the County (Uezd) of Akhaltsikhe (initially in the Governorates of Georgia-Imeretia and of Kutaisi, later in the Governorate of Tbilisi).
