The collection includes lists of the society's members, minutes of meetings of the branches in Tbilisi and Batumi, regulations on the admission of new members and on other issues (some papers on the branch in Baku are also included), personal data of the members.
The Jewish-related materials of the collection include, along with data on the participation of Jewish members in the society's activities, personal files of several Jewish members of the society, who resided in Georgia: Naum Lvovich; Lev Povitsky; Lazar Shlemenzon. The personal files include general biographical information, data on the participation in the revolutionary movement, information on the members' families, employment etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The All-Union Society of Former Political Prisoners and Exiles was established in Moscow in 1921, with the support of prominent Soviet functionaries, including F. Dzerzhinsky. The society provided financial support to former political prisoners and exiles of the Tsarist regime, was engaged in educational and research activities, gathered and published historical materials. Local branches of the society – including a branch in Tbilisi – were established in the first years of its existence. The society was dissolved in 1935; many of its members fell victims of the Stalinist terror of the late 1930s.
