-
The Polytechnic Institute of Riga was established in 1862 as the Polytechnikum of Riga. At the time it was the first multi-profile institution of higher education in Imperial Russia. In the 1890s the Polytechnikum became a Polytechnic Institute. During the interwar period the institute became part of the University of Latvia, established in Riga in 1919.
The Society of Jewish Alumni was established in 1908 as the Society of Jewish Alumni of the Polytechnic Institute of Riga and functioned until 1940. Its goal was to maintain interactions between the alumni by organising cultural and professional activities and providing loans and other financial assistance.
