The archive of the Keudell family includes documents and data on various economical and administrative activities pertaining to estates owned by members of the family.
One of these estates included the town of Sakiai. The papers originating from this town, which had a sizeable Jewish population, include a substantial amount of Jewish-related materials, mostly from the first half of 19th century, among them an 1805 list of Sakiai's Jewish residents detailing their age and occupation.
Several documents address matters related to Jewish ownership and leasing of real estate. Files from throughout the first half of 19th century include selling agreements, maps and schemes and documentation of the buying and selling of houses and plots of land by the Jewish residents of Sakiai. Certain documents mention agreements between members of Jewish families who shared ownership of real estate, such as an 1830 agreement between a widow and her brother-in-law concerning the distribution of the property owned by her late husband and his brother (according to the agreement, the widow had to leave the late husband's house, and take with her their youngest child; however, the older children were designated to stay in the house and enjoy the financial support of their uncle). In another case, the documents include a request not to sell to non-Jews a house located near a synagogue. Other papers mention the reconstruction of houses which were damaged by a fire.
Several files hold documents on Jewish lessors: leasing agreements with Jewish tavern-keepers, data on debts owed by Jewish lessors and papers referring to leasing out the collection of the conscription tax, a levy paid in lieu of military service.
Other files include complaints and protests issued by or against Jewish residents of Sakiai: a complaint by local Jewish tanners against another Jewish tanner working illegally, mutual complaints about violence and illegal arrests listed by a Jewish resident of Sakiai and the members of Keudell family and papers referring to a riot which took place in Sakiai in the late 1810s.
