The collection comprises the materials of the Treasury Chamber of Suwalki, including circulars, correspondence, data on the employment of government officials and financial records such as taxation lists and account books from various government institutions.
Several files contain data on the Jewish residents in the governorate of Suwalki. These reports include violations of trade and taxation regulations and papers on renting houses for the government's needs.
Jewish-related materials can also be found in various lists and record books: population lists, lists of real estate owners, lists of tax payers, lists of debtors and overdue debts and appeals by owners of land or buildings.
- Archival history:
- The documents of the Treasury Chamber of Suwalki were kept in the Moscow Central State Historical Archives in Russia until 1957, when they were transferred to the Lithuanian Central State Archives in Vilnius. They are currently held with other collections from the Tsarist period in the Lithuanian State Historical Archives in Vilnius.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Treasury Chamber of Suwalki was established on July 1 1869 and supervised the activities of banks and other financial institutions. It was also in charge of collecting taxes, supervising industry and trade and registering the governorate's population. It was abolished by the Soviet government in 1918.
