The collection includes part of the correspondence of the editorial staff for Evreiskoe slovo (The Jewish Word), a short-lived Jewish-Estonian newspaper in Russian that appeared between April and October 1920.
The collection consists of several letters from Jewish institutions, such as the press department of the Jewish Ministry of Lithuania and the Jewish Correspondence Bureau in London. Correspondence with other periodicals, such as La Tribune Juive in Paris is also included, as well as several letters which refer to the distribution of Evreiskoe slovo in Estonia and Finland. Letters to and from a number of individuals are also part of the collection.
- Archival history:
- Along with other Jewish-related materials, the papers of Evreiskoe slovo were transferred to the Central Archive of the Estonian SSR in Tallinn (known from 1948 until the end of Soviet rule as the Central State Archive of the October Revolution and Social Development of the Estonian SSR, abbreviated to ORKA or TsGAOR ESSR), predecessor of the current Estonian State Archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Evreiskoe slovo (The Jewish Word) was a short-lived weekly Jewish newspaper in Russian. Edited by G. Friedman and G. Gudkin, it did not have a distinct political or institutional affiliation. It was intended to appear twice a month, but only seven issues were published in the period between April 29 and October 9 1920.
