- The collection contains documents about the state theatre activities of the Uzbek SSR, including the Samarkand Tajik Jewish Musical-Drama Theatre, the Jewish Drama Theatre in Tashkent and Odessa-Kharkov State Jewish Theatre, formed by the merger of Odessa’s and Kharkov’s Jewish State Theatres, which were evacuated at the beginning of the Second World War. Among the documents of the Jewish theatres are repertoire plans with the authors and titles of the plays, as well as works by Jewish authors. There are also various reports and annual, summary, statistical and financial files for 1940-47 and reports with lists of prohibited performances and texts of plays banned for staging. There are works by Jewish authors such as Ilya Fink and Galitsky (writer of satirical articles) and composers A Galperin and Gurevich (1937-47) in the lists. "Historical reference of existing theatres in 1940" (F. 2087, op.3, d. 1) provides information about the Tajik-Jewish Musical-Drama Theatre in Samarkand. Among the reserved files of the theatre there are plans of repertoire with authors and titles, such as Samandarov’s "Kurbon Dovlyat" and "Malko" by Avezov (1940-41) There is also information about Jewish theatre workers at the Russian State Theatre named after Y Sverdlov and the Republican Puppet Theatre. The Puppet Theatre files contain a list and references for the artists of the puppet theatre for 1957, including Jewish actors. Notes of the Tashkent gramophone recording studio from 3 June 1960 are also preserved; in "Popular Songs of Composers of Uzbekistan" and "Chamber Creativity of Uzbekistan" is listed Leviev Manas (Manashe) Benjaminovich, who composed the songs "Pakhtadan" by Uigun, "Kiz Kushegi" by Kariev and "Sie Chashmak" based on a folk text. In the list “Opera, vocal” and “Vocal and Symphonic Creativity of Uzbek Composers”, Yudakov Suleiman (Solomon) Aleksandrovich is the author of the national anthem of Tajikistan. He also composed the operas "Meysara's tricks" and "Kashir songs”.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Administration of the Arts was established in 1936 under the Council of the People's Commissariat of the Uzbek SSR. The department administered theatre, film, music, painting, sculpture and other art institutions also institutions for training theatrical, film, musical and visual artists. In June 1953 it was made part of the Main Directorate of Arts of the Minister of Culture of the Uzbek SSR, which was abolished on 1 January 1955.
