- The collection contains minutes of meetings of the Committee Presidium of Jewish community collaboration in the cities of Merv, Kokand and Fergana; financial reports of native Jewish public committee cooperation (1924); protocols from general meetings of native Jews in Samarkand about the organisation of a religious society; the charter of the native religious society Sephardim (1924); materials of the native Jewish religious communities in Fergana and Andijan with minutes of meetings and lists of members (1924-25); materials about the activities of the Chinaz Jewish community, including minutes from the general meeting of the community, statutes and lists of members of the executive agency community council (1924); reports of the Commissioner on National Minorities about selecting land for a Jewish cemetery and correspondence on this issue; correspondence with the International Union of Assistance to Children under the patronage of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Jewish Relief Conference on the creation of a fund for Jewish craftsmen (1924); and correspondence between the chief of security in Tashkent, national minorities division, and the Tashkent Jewish community, on administrative issues (1924).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- On 23 November 1917, the commissariat of the civil-administrative body entered the SNK Turkestan Autonomous SSR. At the beginning of May 1918, it was reorganised into the Public Commissariat of Internal Affairs (NKVD). The NKVD of Turkestan ASSR was a central administrative department in Turkestan, following local Soviets’ activities and directing and controlling activities of local administrative bodies. It was abolished on 23 November 1924 as part of the national disengagement in Central Asia.
