- The collection includes instructions of the Ministry of Public Education, including a bylaw "On the admission of Jewish children to public and private educational institutions exclusively for the Jews living in the permitted areas" (1910); a process for enrolling Jewish students in educational institutions according to exam results (1914); documents related to the decree of the Minister of Education "On the strict compliance with the percentage rate for Jewish students enrolling at the end of the science course into pro-gymnasium and real schools for continuing education in the upper grades of the gymnasium” (1901); circulars of the Ministry of Public Education and the Chief Inspector of Schools of the Turkestan Territory on educational, administrative, economic and financial matters, the procedure for the admission of Jews to the gymnasiums, the restriction of Jewish admission to secondary schools; the position of the Department of Public Education (including changes to existing rules on admission for Jews who had passed the entrance examinations to secondary schools), according to which the children of Jews drafted into the active army, as well as those killed and wounded, were to be credited first within a percentage rate; reports on the condition of the Tashkent men's gymnasium by grade, including a file number 5, usually in table form, containing information about students’ religious beliefs, including a column showing the number of Jewish students in each year (1886-1917); files on persons receiving studying and maturity certificates, indicating the religion of each graduate, and his desire to continue studying the sciences in which he is interested - for example, the report of for 1898 includes pupils’ religious affiliation: Orthodox 88%, Muslim 2%, Roman Catholic 5.5%, Jewish 5.5%; a list of all pupils of the gymnasium indicating year of birth and classes taken, including 26 Jewish boys from nine to 20, only one a native Jew, Gregory Kalendarov (1916). - The school opened in 1876 in Tashkent and expanded from four grades to a six-grade pro-gymnasium, then in 1881 converted into a full eight-grade gymnasium. The teaching staff numbered 13. There were 96 pupils in the gymnasium in 1877 and by 1912 the number had reached 500, including 10.5% Jews, about 4% Armenians and about 2% Muslims. Overall, there were 13 grades in the gymnasium, including preparatory classes. The gymnasium library owned 5,773 books.
