- Scope and content:
- Files relating to Jews can mostly be found in the first register. They include applications for permits to open trading houses in Tashkent, with permits being granted to the Jewish merchants Alisha Kalendarev (1907), Yusuf Davydov (1906) and the Rubinov brothers (1908); lists of Jewish merchants and bourgeois of Tashkent, registers of their marital status and lists of those who were subject to conscription (1900, 1911); requests by Jews to the Tashkent city duma for permission to open a butcher’s shop in Tashkent, permission to slaughter cattle in a city slaughterhouse in accordance with Jewish custom, correspondence about the increase in prices by sellers of kosher meat and the permission to sell kosher meat at a fixed rate (1915).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Tashkent City Administration, an executive body of Tashkent city public administration, was established in 1877. It was engaged in city improvement and governmental institutions, including education and public health, maintenance of outpatient clinics and pharmacies, monitoring of sanitary conditions in the bazaars, irrigation of Tashkent city and the nearest gardens. Tashkent City Administration monitored implementation of the rules established for trading and craft production, fixing fees and taxes. The organisation for the settlement of refugees during the First World War was also entrusted to this institution. As a result of this, new divisions were formed in the administration - the departments for refugees and evaluation/statistical bureau. Tashkent City Administration was abolished in 1918.
