Scope and content:
In the collection of the Letterenhuis – a voluminous ensemble of archival material, documentation and iconographic material – we find many documents relevant for this guide. The subject files generally contain mostly press cuttings, brochures, programs, publications, leaflets, posters, invitations and often separate archival documents. We firstly note files related to Jewish individuals, or organisations and topics concerning Judaism and/or the Jewish population. The folder “Jewish associations” (V379) for example contains programs and brochures concerning i.a. the Cercle Musical Juif, the ‘Centrale’, Cercle Culturel Juif, Zeire Agudat Israel en Belgique section Anvers, theatre performances of the Trupa Wilenska, Habimah (“Hebreeuws Kunsttheatre”), Joodsche Kunstenaars Theater, Studio Theater, Verein Kadimah, Théâtre Académique Juif de Moscou, Palestiniaansch Theater “Ohel”, Joodsch Volkstooneel, recitals of Yiddish poetry in the Koninklijke Vlaamse Opera, etc. Other relevant files are i.a. “Joodse gemeente” (G27), Joodse Kulturele Kring (K90443), Romi Goldmuntz (GG19), Marten Rudelsheim (R813), Ida Wasserman (W292), Louis Strauss (S9335), Marc Turfkruyer (T446), Sam Tolkowsky (T3701), Fonds Alex De Vries (F39565), Alex de Vries (V9123), Volksverwering (V7595), Wandelende Jood (‘Wandering Jew’)(WW52), Cercle Musical Juif (C2043), Romi Goldmuntz Centrum (G518), Pierre Theunis (T2734), Max Horn (H8154), Joods Museum voor Deportatie en Verzet (JJ82), Joods Museum van België (JJ65), Antwerps Joods Historisch Archief (AA70), etc. A general search in the Agrippa database often also yields links to individuals and organisations for which there is no separate file, but who are mentioned in other archives. (The keyword “Joods vraagstuk” (Jewish question) for example links to 3 letters in which this topic is discussed.)
