Scope and content:
This fonds contains photographs of Jacques Chalude, announcements and programmes of concerts in which he performed as well as press cuttings about him.
Administrative/biographical history:
Yitshak (Jacques) Zaludkowski was born in Stawiszyn (Poland) in 1914. He came to Belgium in 1923 and studied at the athenaeum of Saint-Gilles, while also pursuing musical studies at the Académie de Musique of Saint-Gilles. During the Second World War he fled to France where he joined the resistance. He enrolled at the opera in Lyon under his artist name Jacques Chalude. After the war, he also devoted himself to Jewish and Israeli folk songs, under the pseudonym Ben Baruch. In 1955 he became the hazan of the synagogue in the rue Notre Dame de Nazareth in Paris.
