Scope and content:: In this fonds we note file no. 12.14 which contains material related to the establishment, activities and Segers’ membership of the Belgische Vereniging voor Vriendschap met Israël. We note i.a. correspondence, circulars, minutes of meetings of the board, press releases, lists of members, etc. covering the years 1974-1975.

Administrative/biographical history:: Paul Willem Segers (1900-1983) was a figurehead of the Christian democratic party (CVP) and the Christian workers’ movement. From 1927 onwards he held various senior functions within the ACW, i.a. as national secretary (1927-1946) and as administrator for several cooperatives. Segers was a councillor in the Antwerp city council for the Catholic party (1933-1952), an alderman in Antwerp (1939-1947) and senator (1949-1971). He also served as i.a. the Minister of Transportation (1949-1954, 1958-1961) and Defence (1961-1965, 1968-1971). Segers was nominated Minister of State in 1966. Lastly, he supervised (for the CVP) the establishment of the university of Antwerp.
