Jacob Mansdorf was born in Balitz, in the Kielce region in Poland, in 1902. He studied drama which then became his profession; he acted and also directed theatrical productions. After graduating from a theatre school in Warsaw in 1925, he worked for the studio of David Herman in the Polish capital and in the provinces; later he would act in the Azazel troupe, before joining the Vilna Troupe (in 1927). He married Marische (Myriam); the couple had a son, Michael. Myriam Mansdorf lived in Brussels after the war and moved to Tel Aviv around 1950. She designed sets and costumes.
