Born in Vilnius in 1904, Marjam (Myriam) Lounsky-Kac (1904-1995) migrated to Belgium in 1929 to pursue university studies. She was an educator and teacher at the Yiddishe Shule, a Bundist Yiddish complementary school. As the virtual incarnation of Yiddish education in Brussels after the war, she made a profound impression on her contemporaries. (J.-P. Schreiber, "Lounsky-Kac, Marjam dite Myriam", in J.-P. Schreiber, Dictionnaire biographique des Juifs de Belgique. Figures du judaïsme belge, XIXe-XXe siècles, Bruxelles, De Boeck, 2002, p. 231.)
