Scope and content:
This fonds contains correspondence, files and documents concerning the CJD in Charleroi and the AIVG, as well as documents used in writing the book “Des Juifs debout contre le nazisme” published by Pierre Broder. (see boxes 211 to 214).
Administrative/biographical history:
Born in Poland in 1901, Pierre Broder came to Belgium in 1926. He was a militant of the Bund and was active in Prokor. He founded Solidarité juive of Charleroi with Sem Makowski and Max Katz, which would later become the local branch of the Comité de Défense des Juifs (CDJ). After the war, Pierre Broder was involved in the AIVG where he was mainly working for its social service. His memoirs were published in 1984, in the book titled Des Juifs debout contre le nazisme.
