Administrative/biographical history:
The Caisse de Prêts et de Crédit (CPC) was established in the aftermath of the war, in 1945 – an extremely difficult period of reconstruction for Shoah survivors. The Caisse de Prêts et de Crédit was stimulated and supported by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. This cooperative society gave out short- and medium-term loans to its members for productive purposes; the society did not receive deposits. The requirements of its members evolved over the years; it is impossible to compare the needs of merchants and artisans after the war, with those of the late 1950s. At the dawn of the 1960s, the financial resources necessary to launch a business had increased. The CPC remained a useful institution and was of great interest to its members, primarily traders and artisans. In 1960 the CPC was presided by Paul Philippson. The society was liquidated in 1994.
