Scope and content:
This fonds contains documents related to the company of Jacques Wolffers such as business correspondence, notebooks, bookkeeping records, journals and cash books. We also find personal documents such as correspondence, Hebrew books, a map of the forêt de Soignes etc.
Archival history:
This fonds was acquired by the General State Archives in 1924, through the Direction des Séquestres.
Administrative/biographical history:
The creation of the firm J. Wolffers dates from 1897. Until 1908, Jacques Wolffers served as the associate of his brother Philippe in Sankt Gallen and represented the branches in Sankt Gallen, Plauen, Barmen and Annaberg. In 1909 Wolffers settled in Brussels. He sold embroidery and lace, and during the First World War he also traded in cigars, liqueurs, soap and toiletries, playing cards, etc. Wolffers left Brussels for good in September 1918. (H.
