Scope and content:: This fonds mainly consists of bookkeeping records, journals, cash books, correspondence, samples of fabric and lace, and post cards.

Administrative/biographical history:: The firm Ulrich Heymann & Cie specialised in clothing, lace and mechanical embroidery. It was founded by three partners: Adolphe Heymann, Ulrich Heymann and Antoine Stahl. Adolphe Heymann, son of Salomon Heymann and Bertha Hirsch, was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1869. He came to Belgium in 1889 and worked as a salesman in the buildings of Hirsch & Cie at rue Neuve 21 in Brussels. Adolphe Heymann then moved to St-Josse-ten-Noode (first to rue de la Bienfaisance 29, then to rue du Nord 62). In 1895 he relocated to Germany. His Alien Police file reveals many business trips between Belgium and Germany. One of the other partners, Antoine Stahl, was born in 1850. He was originally from Riedham in Prussia. Stahl had arrived in Liège in 1878, moved to Brussels a decade later and also made a brief passage through Antwerp. His Alien Police file indicates that he worked as a journeyman tailor but also as a sales representative. In this capacity, he subsequently managed the Brüsseler Credit Bank (for less than a year) and a clothing business, and finally he also represented various drapery businesses based in Germany. We have not found any precise information regarding the date of creation of the firm Ulrich Heymann & Cie, nor the date on which Antoine Stahl founded a partnership with Ulrich Heymann. The company was sequestered after the First World War. (K. Carrein, F. Romano & C.
