Creator/accumulator:: Mouvement des étudiants sionistes progressistes – Mouvement des étudiants sionistes socialistes

Scope and content:: This fonds contains the statutes of the MESP-MESS, minutes of meetings, notes, press releases, leaflets, posters, a list of members, bookkeeping documents and correspondence. (See boxes 246 and 246bis)

Administrative/biographical history:: The Mouvement des étudiants sionistes progressistes (‘movement of progressive Zionist students’) existed during the 1980s. It was a specific political faction of the Union des Étudiants Juifs de Belgique. The MESP opposed the unconditional support for the State of Israel, expressed by a part of the Jewish diaspora. The association considered the policies of the Hebrew state to be reactionary and adventurist. It promoted mutual recognition of the two peoples, Palestinians and Israelis, as a just solution to the conflict. The MEPS stimulated a progressive Judaism and supported the Israeli peace movement Shalom Archav. (Leaflets and publications of the MESP. Record Centre (BE / IEJ / Record Centre, box “Varia 16”).)
