Scope and content:: In this fonds we note, in box 13, volume II, folder 10 correspondence (dated 1941) regarding the identification of members of the KAN who supposedly were of Jewish descent.

Administrative/biographical history:: Since the royal decree of 24 January 1928, (inter)professional associations of independents can join the Kamers van Ambachten en Neringen (KAN)(‘Chambers of crafts and small businesses’), organised by province. Following modifications in 1949, 1950 and 1951, the KAN now exclusively group free local and regional professional organisations, leersecretariaten and ‘economic associations’ (e.g. local credit institutions, cooperatives etc.). Through their representation in the Nationale Raad van Ambachten en Neringen, the KAN have delegates in the Hoge Raad voor de Middenstand. (L. van Molle, P. Heyrman & C.
