Scope and content:
This fonds is divided into several sub-fonds for each hospital, hospice and orphanage managed by the Conseil des Hospices, the CAP and the CPAS of Brussels. It contains archival material produced by each establishment, such as series of administrative registers (such as admission registers containing lists of incoming and outgoing patients arranged by gender and date but not religion or nationality), medical registers, files of the management, etc. The registers of the St. Jean hospital mention the religious affiliation of the patients - we note the files nos. 458-464 (“Religions”). These registers mention the number, file number, name and first name, religion, date of entry, of exit or decease, and comments. These registers enable us to identify the patients of the St. Jean hospital from a particular angle, namely those patients with a specific religion: Jewish, Protestant, Orthodox, “mahometant” (Muslim), freethinker, without religion. We point out, though, that these various sub-fonds are incomplete and contain gaps.
