Scope and content:: In this fonds we find documents (dated 1940-1941) concerning the implementation of the ordinance of the 28th of November 1940, prohibiting the exercise of official functions by Jews (see file no. 44).

Administrative/biographical history:: The Labour Courts (Arbeidsrechtbanken) and Courts of Labour (Arbeidshoven) were created in 1967. Before that, the conseils de prud’hommes composed of lay judges arbitrated in minor cases between workers and employers. Today, Belgium counts 27 labour courts that dispense justice in disputes about the application and observation of individual and collective labour agreements, as well as litigations related to labour legislation and social security. In addition to professional judges, lay judges (representatives of the employers, workers and self-employed persons) also seat in these courts, notably regarding social affairs. Judgements pronounced by labour courts can be challenged before the Courts of Labour. A labour court has its own prosecutor’s office (known as Arbeidsauditoraat), led by an arbeidsauditeur assisted by deputies. (K. Velle & P. Access, restrictions:: Consultation of documents less than 30 years old requires the authorisation of the chief clerk (hoofdgriffier) of the court. Consultation of documents older than 30 years and containing personal information requires the authorisation of the Algemeen Rijksarchivaris or his representative, as well as filling in a research declaration – except for concerned parties (betrokken partijen) or law-seeking citizens (rechtzoekend burger).
