Scope and content:
This collection consists of indexes and registers of the Imperial and Royal County Office and Prefecture (Bezirksamt und Präfektur) of Sibiu. Indexes are arranged alphabetically by name of individual or organisation and in some cases by topic, and arranged in approximate chronological order. As such, one typically can find relevant entries by searching for words such as “Juden” or “Israeliten” (Jews), or by the names of individual members of the Jewish community. The indexes and registers provide a short summary of the case or document, along with the case or document number. The registers typically provide fuller summaries and often give the opening date of the case and the date and a short description of the resolution. In some cases, the documents may be preserved and can be requested using the document numbers recorded in the registers and indexes, although not all documents are still extant. For examples of material related to the Jewish population which may be found within the collection, see the entry for this collection at http://jbat.lbi.org/, subfield ‘contains’, and click on any link.
