This collection contains records created by the police department of Siret during the interwar period and World War II. Of interest to those researching regional Jewish history may be a folder recording those who renounced Romanian citizenship and adopted the citizenship of other countries (almost all Jews) and a folder showing the ethnic breakdown of various demographic groups (students, factory owners, workers) in Siret, created following the deportations to Transnistria and therefore of interest due to the total absence of the Jewish population. For details, see the entry for this collection at http://jbat.lbi.org/, subfield ‘contains’, and click on any title.
Archival history:
The collection was maintained by the police authorities until it was acquired by the National Archives during the communist period.
