Scope and content:
The fonds contains the statutes of the Jewish Religious Community of Loštice (1876, 1884, 1898, 1923), meeting minutes, filing registers, election records, personnel records, Familiantenbuch (register of Familiants) (1826–1848), applications for Familiant status, registry records, household property records, construction-related documents, official memoranda, files of the Jewish community (by year), financial records, a register of synagogue seats, a Hazkara, files relating to the construction of the local synagogue, an inventory of objects from the synagogue, documents of the burial society (chevra kadisha), files of a Jewish school, and records of several Jewish associations. The fonds also contains a cash book and financial files of the Jewish community, as well as cash books of the local poorhouse, burial society (chevra kadisha) and women's association.
Archival history:
The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
Administrative/biographical history:
The earliest reference to Jewish settlement in Loštice dates from 1544. A Jewish religious community was established there in 1581. It was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War and did not subsequently resume its activities.
