Jewish Religious Community of Kyjov

Collection description

Scope and content:: The fonds contains a ledger (pinkas), the statutes of the Jewish Religious Community of Kyjov (1895, 1919), filing registers, election records, personnel files, registry files, Familiant-related documents (1st half of the 19th century), records relating to Jewish houses, construction-related documents, business records (mid-19th century), financial and tax records, fragmentary records relating to Jewish associations/institutions and to the affiliated community of Koryčany.

Archival history:: The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.

Administrative/biographical history:: It is assumed that there was a Jewish settlement and religious community in Kyjov from the 16th century. Its statutes were drawn up in 1680. The community was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War. It resumed its activities for a short time after the war.
