Scope and content:
This relatively large fonds contains the statutes of the Jewish Religious Community of Boskovice including amendments (1890–1930), filing registers, meeting minutes, election records, personnel files, records relating to registry matters and the community membership register, correspondence, financial and tax records, construction-related files, social welfare records, and registers of synagogue seats. The fonds also contains fragmentary files of various Jewish associations and institutions. During the Nazi Occupation, the community's routine records (postal books) were kept until 1941.
Archival history:
The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
Administrative/biographical history:
The first reference to Jewish settlement in Boskovice dates from 1343. A Jewish religious community probably existed there from the first half of the 16th century onwards. The local Jewish population was at its largest in the middle of the 19th century (about 2,000-a third of the town's population). A number of Jewish associations were active there. The community was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World but subsequently resumed its activities.
